I well remember trying to photograph things in Evansville back in 2007/08. The mess of powerlines in flat cities often grabs my attention.
Early the next morning, the Kings Highway band met up in Henderson for the two hour drive to Salem Illinois. I hadn’t seen Josh in almost five years. I was super-documentarian when I met all these guys back in 2007; you can review here (from 9//2007). We got there early. The park was full of old walnut trees and oaks.
Our green room.
Just kidding. There wasn’t a green room. The stage clothes hung from a tree. I spotted this feller.
It’s an honor to play with Mark and his band Kings Highway. That’s Mark at left, and Chris back there, who plays a mean Kentucky thumb-style guitar.
This festival is about the same size as Bower’s Mansion back home in Reno. The first set was a little loose, but it was also burning up in the sun under tent. We have another show in 2 1/2 hours.
So we laid low and watched David Davis (Cleo Davis’s son), then Phillip Steinmetz with Robert Montgomery.
The evening show was a blast. I surprised myself and played walking bass through a version of Jump, Jive and Wail. After the show the boys from a local band from Effingham came up. This is Caleb from Firebox pickin’ my mandolin.
